hey kids,
alots been happening round my neck of the woods. big shit, you better believe it. so big i might need to start another blog. or a website! goodness!
this started as a comic blog, but it inevitebly developed into a rant-sorta thing.
speaking of, I'm in Japan now. I had a crazy new year. i don't remember much of it. i was drinking, kissing, and apparently smoking (and vomiting, but lets not go into that, ok?) so im a bit dead at the moment (still!!)
I've been doing heaps of music work (more on that later (?) ) and a bunch of film work. there's some neato stuff that's gonna pop up soon, tis a matter of time.
we'll see!
merry two thousand and nine.

Scandinavia - FINAL UPDATE (?)

i want to be home. today was the first day of term 4. people are actually wondering where i am. and everything's screwy with the planes,
im trying to get home now. it was meant to be copenhagen to helsinki, then a nine hour fight to hong kong and a 9 hour to melbourne. but one of the engines fucked up before we took off in helsinki, which meant a 3 hour delay. which means a missed flight in hong kong. which means i now have to go hong kong to bangkok, then 13 hours to sydney, then melbourne. which makes no sense!! 13 hours?! well, im in bangkok now, and they have a japanese restaurant, which is...yum. the change over was 8 hours, theres 4 left now. i dunno if im making much sense, i havent slept much. or eaten much. i dont think...
but yeah, thats more or less why im sick of travelling. oh, and i didnt mention how in copenhagen i had to sleep in the airport. i got there at 3 pm for my sis to catch a flight, and my flight was midday the next day. 3 hours of sleep and a lot of walking around doing jack.
but yeah, i met this nice girl named rachael, and this old woman on the helsinki, HK plane. me n rach are hanging out now we were gonna go into bangkok and kik us up a storm, but of course the city's, like, and hour away. so no. we managed to get a bit of sleep, we might get some food now.

but that's right, this is about scandinavia! denmark was alight, we met some guys on the train to copenhagen, and they told us about the hostel they were staying in. we all got a 6 dorm room and we went out for dinner and drinks together (kfc. ewwey). kristen and i went and saw christiania the next day, which wasnt as good as i hoped it'd be. too...druggie like but whatever, we had a good time for the day we were there...
so thats about it. if something exciting happens between here and home, it shall be posted. but if not, so ends the scandinavia blog!
ill be posting up some sketches and doodles soon. im pretty sure we've all forgotten about the 99 doodles challenge, eh?

Scandinavia update 4 - Stockholm

I'm sitting on the floor in my sleeping bag. kristen is on the couch and hannah is on the mattress. you all remember hannah, she's the girl from Upsalla who we met in the Oslo youth hostel. while kristen and i are staying here with Mange, she came down for a day to hang out. we did heaps, went to our favorite little GLBT cafe that ooks onto the nobel museum (which we never went in...), we walked around Gamla Stan, the old town, checked out Sodermalm for some wicked as vintage shopping (we went to hannah's fave underground retro and vintage store, so rad!), i FINALLY picked up a copy of Charles Burns's Black Hole, got some lunch in a big food hall, then trained back to the main island to do some more shopping (skinny jeans and new shoes from Weekday! he shoes cost 17 aussie dollars!), some dinner at the belgian bar that mange took us to the day before, and finally, we finsihed the day off by seeing hellboy 2, the golden army! so hannah missed her train, and we called mange for some help. he let her sleep over too! such a fantastic lad, although he did get us drunk the other night...very funny! stockholms been cool so far. today we may be going up to upsalla though, and then to copenhagen on thursday. but we're still missing oslo! tord wants us to come back, and of course we wanna too! it makes sense that we would...

Scandinavia update 3 - Bergen

well, it's quarter to 3 am on a saturday morn. just got back from a random little...festival thing that went down here in Bergen. a rehearsal studio burnt down about a week or two ago, so a bunch of bands decided to get together to fundraise for the new building and equipment. and it was fucking awesome.
well, first of all, the 7 hour train ride to Bergen was worth it. kristen and i got about 3 hours of sleep last night, we got up at about 6:30. i've been awake...uh...twenty hours and 15 minutes. nice. plus, i havent eaten too much, so i'm feeling a bit weak at the moment. the train ride was beautiful, we met this nice lady from bergen who told us lots of cool things, and where the prime photo ops are. she also told us about how one of the places we trained through was used for the snow battle in star wars. you know, the one with the planes, and those giant machines, and luke is put inside the gizzards of some big animal to stay warm...ok, yeah, i might ramble a bit, and repeat stuff. 20 hours, c'mon.
after heaps of searching we got a room in a cozy little guesthouse, which was luckily located right near the building that the festival was taking place in. we rocked up fashionably late, around 9:30 (having bought our ticket at, like, 7...). we walked into the main hall and watched this really rad band jump around. after about four songs we realized it was datarock. huh. pretty damn awesome, they we're so rad, at one point they all stood in a bunch, turned their backs to the audience and started doing thrusts, so hilarious. i noticed this guy towards the end of their set, he looked strangely familiar...i asked him if he was in a band, to which he smiled, chuckled and said "no". But my spidey sense was tingling. I love kings of convenience, and i was certain that this man was Eirik Glambek Boe. we walked back to the front of the pit, and i noticed a bunch of gils talking to him. i caught his eye and we both kinda laugh-smiled. so was him. and after the next band, Fjorden Baby (not bad...) he came up and said "I'm sorry for lying, it's just that i get asked that question a lot. a lot of people want me to tell them which band I'm in. do you think you know?"
"Kings of convenience"
"very good"
I don't remember the rest, but we chatted for a bit. it was an incredible experience to meet him, Kings of Convenience are a big inspiration. after we chatted, i notice Erlend Oye, part two of KoC. so up I went, on my I-Met-a-Star kind of high. i asked if he was erlend oye. i knew he was of course, and he said yes, but i wasn't expecting him to put out his hand for a shake. such nice people! we had a little chat too, then off i went to tell kristen what happened, as she had conveniently trotted off to the toilet.
Erlend Oyes other band, the Whitest Boy Alive, were set to play, and after a ridiculously long soundcheck, out came Erlend to, uh, say something in Norwegian to the crowd. and then on came some other random band (later we found out that they are called the new wine, a fantastic group!). Koppen was set to play in half an hour, and seeing as we knew Fredrik and Jorgen we knew that we had to go and see Koppen play. but it was Whitest Boy Alive!! we waited half an hour, and after another fantastic warm up band (besides the usual guitar, bass, drums and keyboards they had a cello, a trombone and three guys dressed in liederhosen, singing back in a doo-wap style!!!), on came tWBA. so effing worth the wait. the second song they played was Golden Cage, my favorite piece by them, but we decided to leave once it had finished. but lo and behold, right in the hallway was Fredrik, heading for the toilet. turns out he was on in about ten mins. so back we went, to splendor in the glory of them White Boys.
after heaps of photos, we hopped over to Koppen. our first live metronomicon experience, and so fantastic!! this crazy film montage was projecting onto a screen behind the band, giving this crazy feel to the whole gig. when It's Fishy began, i was waiting to belt out every word. fucking love that song. but the set was cut short, letting us head back to catch the end of the other set. and goddamn, it was worth it! all 3 bands weaved in and out, mixing players and instruments to make this eclectic and exciting explosion of audial wonderment (i'm a poet, i know!). erlend crowd surfed, kristen and i both contributed. finally the set finished. we caught up with jorgen to say our kind of goodbyes (we don't have anywhere booked for tomorrow. tonight. we're hoping to either catch a really late train, or an early morning train so we can just stay up all night.). and here we are. i'm done, and so tired. goodnight.

Scandinavia update 2 - Oslo

24/9/08 - OMG, i cannot wait to move here one day! oslo is just the most incredible city ever!!! we were meant to be staying with jorgen, but due to some very irritating phone troubles we ended up buying a room in the anker hostel (a really great place, btw!) it's in the immigrant district, so its always exciting. at first i was wary, but i've gotten used to the atmosphere, totally loving it! last night we came home from a beer and kebab to find another girl in our 6 person dorm, Hannah. and not only did we hang out all day, kristen and i are also going to her home town in sweden for a visit!! she's heading back tonight, but kristen and i at last got the keys to the metronomicon studio, so we have a place!! and its just above the yokoland studio, so its fucking ace!!! i met too many of my idols today, jorgen, frederic, emil, aslak...uh, actually that was it for today. but stil, eeeee!!! so many stories to tell, it was just wonderful today. these photos only cover up to this morn when my camera ran out of batteries. we have heaps more on my sis's cam, but it has a weird cord, so they'll have to wait till we get back. ooh, and also, last night we wanted to find a meal, s we just asked a random girl who was selling stuff on the street, we ended up talking for about 15 minutes! another friend, says we should head up to bergen! but we'll see, we have plans for so much...we'll see.
and guess what? after about 10 minutes of trying, i've given up on trying to upload photos. taking waaaaay too long. but soon? we'll see if i can find some wi fi, but whtevs. very chilled right now.

26/9/08 - these last few days have just been wild! kristen and i have been cruising around oslo, we know this city like the back of our hands! i can't even remember much f yesterday...ok, let's see: we met these two guys from a groovy rock band who were rehearsing here in metronopolis, and truls played us some of the unreleased pilemil tracks from the upcoming album. about 6 of us talked for a few hours yesterday about whatever, that was good fun. and tord and oye (the two guys from the band) bought us some kick ass pizza.
but today! after a dodgy breakfast from the supermarket (unlike yesterdays, a fresh croissant and a bowl of hot chocolate from the beautiful cafe that overlooks the park...), jorgen came over to pick us up.
we all walked the 20 minute walk to the new radio orakalen office near the city center. it used to be located in edvard munchs old home, but that place is being repaired, so we climbed the temporary stairs to the temp housing. jorgen was doing a radio session today, and he invited me along to play some tunes, which was such a fun and incredible experience! i wanna get a job on the radio...one day, perhaps. after walking around a bit, krisen and i headed home. ha, home. well, for now it is.
jorgen got back and i bought a HEAP of cds (including a certain someones recently finished but as of yet unreleased album...cough cough magnus moriarty...), and we got some fantastic free posters! then we headed down to yokoland where we picked up even MORE posters and a rad exhibition book! plus a sneak preview of the upcoming childens book (its looking incredible!). next we headed down to Last Train, a neat little bar near the castle, where we met up with the band, Le Corbeau. we helped set up (or, we were meant to...) and after a wuick bight to eat we headed back to chill out and drink beers. 11 o'clock came around, and the guys hopped up on stage to play a fantastic set, a huge turn out! kristen was even up on stage for about 5 songs, playing the cowbels (hilarious!). unfortunately we had to say our goodbyes for now, but we werent too torn, because we've already decided we're coming back next year! plus, we have some art and movie plans, so we'll see!! and now, after walking home (and meeting a tour group who were all pissed, and who had us going out for drunks (until kristen was turned away because she's not 20...)) we need a bit of sleep, before tomorrows 7 hour train ride to bergen. and then, the festival!! the adventures continue!

(and btw, we'll work out the best photos from the trip, and do a huge photo post later!! too tired right now... =( )

Scandinavia update 1 - Helsinki

eeee!!! in scandinavia! finland is pretty cool so far, we've been here one full day, we arrived yesterday. i saw my sister kristen for the first time in 7 months!! it was so exciting...we caught up on the bus ride to the opera house, which is near our youth hostel, which in turn is connected to the old olympic stadium. hmm, random? so yesterday we went to the town for some food (and with kristen here, shopping of course). we ended up going to this place called zetor, which has a rad tractor theme (no joke). the lmap shades were buckets and cheese graters!! and i had my first real meat in 6 years, elk!! sorry pollo-vegetarianism, i just had too! and it was damn good...so yeah. ok, photos!

i only did two drawings today, this was in this awesome hippy coffee shop we found coming back from the harbour. the other i drew while sitting a cothing shop, waiting for kristen and leah. one of the store assistants came up and was like "what are you doing?" which freaked me out, cuz over here NO ONE smiles, so i thought i was in trouble. turns out she was just telling me that there were seats around the corner.

the night we arrived, afrikan boy was doing a gig. i nearly screamed when i saw this poster, but we were too tired to go out, bummer. oh well, i stole this today from a bus stop on a main street. yay, inconspicuous!

kristen in the room when we first arrived yesterday.

kristen at the morning fish/flea market. we met up with our friend leah, who's been living over in estonia for a while. she came to visit us for the two days that we're here, and we all had an awesome time today doing some sight seeing and shopping. we got some paella and reindeer for brunch at the market. oh, and i also bought some of these berries that looked sooo sweet. most bitter things EVER. but we still ate them.

looking at some cute reindeer. kinda funny, seeing as we've been eating them...

the uspensky cathedral. it's made out of brick!! we went in for a quick peek and there was...something going on...it looked like a marriage, but a priest was speaking really fast and stopped every once in a while to let this woman in a suit sing a few words accapella. and the funny thing was that there were these two men standing behind the couple (?) holding crowns above their heads. huh...

senate square, there was another little market here, too.

the girls jumping at senate square

kristen on some play equipment we found in this apartment complex, thing. right next to the harbor.

WE FOUND BEN AND JERRYS!!!! we first saw some in this convenience store, but they didn't have the cookie dough one, so no thanks. we found some more after the cafe in a video store. the had cookie dough, but it was a hole 25 cents more, golly gosh! and then we found some in a supermarket right before we caught the tram back to the hostel, so it was all good!

PAINTING IN PROGRESS 3

well, here's todays work. did about an hour today, maybe a bit less. i worked on the hair, and added some more details. I'm loving details, such fun! I'm out tonight, so it won't get finished today...hopefully before the weekend though. ooh, actually, i'm away this weekend, so maybe not! yikes. ok, but yeah.
